In 2018, we were living in Miami, Florida in Elle’s grandparent’s house after they passed away. We started to plan the bus about a year in advance of moving away from Miami.
We saved our funds and sold most of our possessions over the course of the year in order to afford the move and the bus. Our family-friend Julian was living part-time in Miami and in New Jersey and had roomed with us for a time in Miami. When we planned for the move to New Jersey, he synced his trip with us so that he could tow our u-Haul trailer to New Jersey for us. In June 2018 we filled the other two cars with our plants, our cats, and ourselves and drove 1,200 miles to just outside of Atlantic City.
We bought the bus the following month, July 2018. We gutted the bus, prepped it for building, and started installing insulation and flooring in October of 2018. We finished the bus in July of 2019, almost exactly a year after purchase. We immediately registered the bus as an RV, applied for workcamping jobs, and landed a job on the coast of Maine!
We’ve been on the road full-time ever since, working at campgrounds at some capacity or helping local small businesses attract more tourists.
