New Jersey – Summer 2021

New Jersey – Summer 2021

During the Summer, Jake worked at the Walking Bird Farm fulfilling a dream of growing and harvesting food for the community. Elle bought a season pass to Six Flag Great Adventure and popped into the park throughout the Summer for some exercise and people-watching. We made a day trip to Cape May to visit the beach and see the horseshoe crab migration and to go to the Cape May Zoo, which is totally free to the public. At the beach,…

New Jersey – Winter 2020

New Jersey – Winter 2020

After being in Maine for the Summer, we headed back to Jake’s Grandparent’s house in New Jersey. We were greeted warmly by Jake’s grandfather, Charles, who had made and hung a sign up next to our normal parking spot. We were able to have Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner with Jake’s family, as well as celebrate Charles’ 88th birthday in January. It snowed a little bit over the season, but being so close to the ocean, it doesn’t get quite as…

Rockport, Maine – Month 6

10/01-/10/30/2020: Our final month in Maine is always the most beautiful. The fall breeze brings a completely new color pallet to the trees. The homes in this area are painted with bold colors like plum purples and navy blues, which pop against the orange and red leaves. They surely know how to compliment the beauty of the surrounding area with homes that are all unique and picturesque. We kicked off the month with our final Team Time Tuesday as a…

Rockport, Maine – Month 5

09/01-09/30/2022: It’s all about the food this month. We had our weekly team potlucks, except we celebrated a few birthdays and 2 weddings, so we had reason to go all out with our contributions. We hosted and catered a seaside wedding at the campground waterfront. Jake, Alex, Charleen, and I worked together to coordinate, decorate, cook, cater, serve, and clean up this small wedding on the cliffside. The following Team Time was a day out on the boats. They picked…

Rockport, Maine – Month 4

08/01-08/30/2022: The owner of the Appledore Schooner was a guest of ours at Megunticook Campground and during one of our Lobster Bakes, he invited us all to come take a cruise on the Schooner for free. We scheduled a ride and did a sunset tour around Camden harbor and the nearby lighthouses. It was an excellent experience and they served drinks aboard the ship as we cruised around. Sunset as we came back into Camden Harbor Rock Harbor Beer Tour…

Rockport, Maine – Month 3

07/01-07/31/2020: We celebrated Jake’s birthday at home with a delicious black forest cake that I picked up from our favorite local bakery. Jake and Alex went on a kayak journey on a clear day and got some awesome photos of the wildlife and more. Beech Hill and the Beech Nut This little hut on the top of the hill was once a vacation home for a family who had to travel here by horse and carriage. The 2 mile hike…

Rockport, Maine – Month 2

06/01-06/30/2020: We became good friends with our co-workers, Charleen and Alex, and spent a lot of time hiking and sight-seeing with them. They also invited us whenever their friends came to visit as we did not have friends in the area. We climbed a few mountains with them and also explored the downtown areas of Rockport, Camden, and Boothbay Harbor. Elle made some designs for Catherine who wanted a new way to indicate where the camp host spots were located…

Rockport, Maine – Month 1

05/01-5/30/20: We returned to Rockport, Maine, for the Summer 2020 season. We really enjoyed our previous summer with Catherine and Scott, but started the season late as we got there in mid August. We wanted to arrive at the start of the season and help them open the campground. We also wanted to experience all of the fun attractions and activities while the weather was warm. Upon arrival and with two weeks to get the park cleaned up, we got…

Alliance, OH

01/09/2020-4/29/2020: Our job in Alliance, OH was for a woman who owns several businesses on Main Street, a historic part of the town. Her goal was to open multiple family-friendly tourist attractions to accompany her already-famous Troll Hole Museum, home of the world’s largest troll doll collection. It was freezing the entire time that we were there and because of how far north we were, the days were very short. We ended up getting our sleep cycles reversed and worked…

12/26/2019-01/02/2020: We were finally able to make it to the family vacation for the first time in seven years. Previously, we had work we couldn’t take days off from, pets we could not leave in the care of another person, or financial limitations keeping us from joining the family for the annual trip to the cabins in North Carolina. Now that we live in the bus and on the road full time, we are able to travel when we want…
