Hershey, PA – Summer 2023
On the way to our new Summer job near Scranton, PA, we passed through Hershey and took some time to check out the touristy stuff. I really wanted to go to Hershey Park, but this was just before Memorial Day so the park was not open full-time yet. We were there on a weekday so we went to the Hershey Gardens and Butterfly Atrium. I am very scared of bugs so the butterfly thing was a moment of personal growth (lol).
After the gardens, we went to the Hershey Story Museum which covered the history of Mr. Hershey’s career in chocolate. Apparently he failed at a lot of industries, but got lucky in chocolate. The chocolate industry led him to dip his toes into the dairy, soap, and sugar industries; by products of the cocoa, milk, and sugar were made into other products.
Before starting the tour, we had a chocolate flight and tasted drinking chocolate from all over the world. There was a special exhibit on Hersey, Cuba, a town that Mr. Hershey grew sugar cane in. This piqued my interest as a Cuban person.
