Lancaster, PA – Summer 2022

Lancaster, PA – Summer 2022

In May of 2022, we traveled to Pennsylvania to start the Summer camping season at Mill Bridge Village Campground, a small family-owned campground in Lancaster, PA. The property used to be an Amish Mill and Market, but was sold in the 1960’s to the Kopan family who made it into a quiet camping resort that families could visit and stay at when they came to Dutch PA Amish Country.

One of the first things we did when we arrived in Lancaster is go visit the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum in Strasburg, PA. I, for one, did not know that trains were so ENORMOUS, but Jake is a lover of trains and expected it all. We got to tour the inside of the trains as well, siting in the control seat and learning what everything does. Old steam engine controls are so complicated and dangerous!

We made friends with our co-worker, Kaylee, who showed us all the hidden trails and fishing spots around Lancaster. We went on many interesting adventures together from swimming, climbing, and fishing to hiking through abandoned train tunnels.

We spent the day in Lititz, PA, another area with a mixture of modern and Amish culture. We tried the famous soft pretzels at Julius Sturgis, visited Lititz Park for a Pokemon Go Community Day, tried the local Pub, and then stopped by the Stoll & Wolfe Distillery for some spirits.
