Rockport, Maine – Month 1
05/01-5/30/20: We returned to Rockport, Maine, for the Summer 2020 season. We really enjoyed our previous summer with Catherine and Scott, but started the season late as we got there in mid August.
We wanted to arrive at the start of the season and help them open the campground. We also wanted to experience all of the fun attractions and activities while the weather was warm.
Upon arrival and with two weeks to get the park cleaned up, we got straight to work on beautifying the park. Then we worked together to sand and paint the campground boat to get it ready for the marina in a few weeks.
Once all of the work campers had arrived and gotten settled in, we had our first Team Time Tuesday of the season. We had a bonfire on the waterfront and watched the sun set over the mountains.
For the next few weeks, tensions were high and the future of the park was unclear as Covid lockdowns were starting to get more relaxed, but fear of the virus was at an all time high. Originally, the owners of the campground were notified that they needed to cancel all of our reservations through April. Then, the Wednesday before Memorial Day weekend, the Governor of Maine said that we could be open for the holiday weekend.
We got right to work and the park had a successful first weekend despite the pandemic chaos. Most of our guests were locals who simply wanted to get out of their homes and get outdoors, driving sometimes only 10 or 15 miles to stay for the weekend and get some fresh air.
We got the boat ready to be put in the water and our reward was a nice private cruise around the islands with Catherine and Scott. We had a great time visiting their favorite spots to relax and take in the sights.
Jake finished his work in progress, the privy and lobster bake equipment storage down on the waterfront. We then had our first Lobster Bake of the season on the waterfront and guests were able to access a closer bathroom thanks to Jake’s work. We were also able to clean up all of our cooking equipment right after the cookout and store it in it’s new storage unit instead of taking it all back up to the main building in the truck.
