Alliance, OH
01/09/2020-4/29/2020: Our job in Alliance, OH was for a woman who owns several businesses on Main Street, a historic part of the town. Her goal was to open multiple family-friendly tourist attractions to accompany her already-famous Troll Hole Museum, home of the world’s largest troll doll collection.
It was freezing the entire time that we were there and because of how far north we were, the days were very short. We ended up getting our sleep cycles reversed and worked mostly at night on these building interiors.
Of course, during our time here, the pandemic lockdown took effect in mid March. We were mostly unaffected as we were already working in isolated conditions, not to mention sleeping all day and working all night, avoiding people already as it was. Jake was tasked with building an interactive playroom for a cat cafe by up-cycling a lot of natural, found, or thrifted materials into a jungle themed obstacle course.
My job at the cat cafe was to paint a 360 degree mural of a jungle scene to encapsulate the room and give it an immersive feeling. We also created a cave in the corner which we painted to look mossy.
Soon after our portion of the job was done, the floors were painted and plants were added to the ceiling to give the illusion of a canopy.
Our second project was to redesign the front lobby of an escape room to be more thematic and uniform and designing a second game room. This required us to create a puzzle flow chart and create all of the props for the game.
Elle also created a video for the local hospital who were celebrating one of their charitable departments.
