Living in Maine : Weeks 10 & 11

Living in Maine : Weeks 10 & 11

This week we wrapped up the 2019 camping season with Scott and Catherine’s friends and family. Every year, they begin and end the season by inviting their friends and family to come enjoy a free weekend of camping in exchange for some light clean up. They also throw an end of season party with a theme. This year, it was a Gilligan’s Island Luau.

October 14th:

Jake built an outhouse for the park at the waterfront. Over the course of the 10 weeks, he worked on it between shifts and between our other gigs. I painted a sign for the outhouse featuring the campground mascot, Seymour Seaswell.

October 18th:

Friends and Family Weekend

We had a great time with all of the friends and family that came to help us close out the summer season. Jake had a team assigned to him to help him finish the outhouse and I was put in charge of preparing breakfast and lunch over the course of three days. We usually finished working at about 4pm and got together for drinks and a fire at about 6pm.

We had our Gilligan’s Island themed luau at the welcome center and had burgers and bbq fare.

October 20th:

Jake went out on the boat with Catherine and Scott. He couldn’t pass up the opportunity to go back to Blue Barren Gin Distillery and to take a cruise on the boat.

October 21st:

We packed up and got ready to head out to our next adventure. We decided to caravan with Rom and Emily to Salem, MA as we had a similar route planned down the east coast. It was bittersweet leaving the campground, but we knew we would be coming back real soon.
